International Trends & Services

The mission of the International Trends and Services facet is to expand the global platform for programs designed to service the educational, health, and cultural needs of people of African ancestry throughout the world. All programs are delivered through measurable and sustainable service delivery models that reach men, women and their children.

The Pasadena/Altadena Chapter provides our local community with opportunities to make a difference in addressing international issues and establishing connections to people of African descent within our community, particularly through our youth. The ITS facet worked directly with middle school students at the NIA Charter School in Altadena introducing them to African and other various countries and cultures of the world.

The Pasadena /Altadena chapter has shown its commitment to international affairs through The United Nations by actively embracing the Pasadena Foothills Branch of The United Nations of America with a Chapter lifetime membership.

“Linking with Haiti”    Women’s Survival Kits   (National Initiative)

The Links Incorporated immediately provided outreach to the women and girls in Haiti who were devastated by the 2010 earthquake through the distribution of Survival Kits. These kits consist of personal hygiene products for women and girls. The Pasadena/Altadena chapter partnered with a community agency, “Child of Haiti” to ensure that these kits were assembled and delivered to those in need in Haiti. The mentees in the Links Up for Success mentoring program, met on several occasions to assemble the survival kits and prepare them for shipment to Haiti. This will be an ongoing, sustainable program for The Links Up for Success in the Pasadena/Altadena Chapter.

“Linking with Liberia” Education Across The Miles   (National Signature Program)

Since 1996 The Pasadena/Altadena Chapter has helped to build, refurbish and provide educational material to over 60 schools in South Africa through its donations to The Links Foundation, Incorporated. Members of The Links Up for Success Mentees viewed a video of the Delegation of The Links Incorporated’s journey to Liberia and Ghana in February- March 2013.

The Pasadena/Altadena chapter will continue to work with schools this biennium in Liberia, West Africa. Our chapter has already pledged and donated funds to our newly identified and adopted schools in Liberia: The Todee School, The School for the Blind, The African Methodist University, and The Ann Sandell School. Individual members of the chapter have adopted the Ann Sandell School. Members of the chapter travelled to Liberia in February of 2013 to witness the induction of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the president of Liberia, as an honorary member of the Links Incorporated!
